Two houses were previously removed to other locations to make way for this structure built in 1884, by Sheriff Joseph Gillies, at a cost of $10,000. The general design is a combination of Gothic and Queen Anne. First story ceilings are 12 ½ feet high. A private club/smoking/billiards room was planned for the third floor, but never completed. Starting in 1999, the building was home to a bed and breakfast for a time.
