28: Masonic Temple

Masons practice philanthropic activities in support of local charities.  The Mount Lebanon Lodge #32, Laconia’s Mason Lodge, is the oldest continuous Freemason Lodge located in what became Belknap County. The Masonic Temple was built in 1892, just a year before Laconia become incorporated. The Masons remained in the building until 1984, when they moved to their current location on Court Street.

The Laconia Hardware Company occupied one area on the first floor and stored dynamite in the basement. The Knight & Huntress Business was also located in the building as well as the Post office and some city offices.  There remains a sign on the far left above the entrance stating, ‘Laconia Hardware Co.’
