The United States Bicentennial Festival Week in Elmhurst culminated with the dedication of the restored Chicago Great Western Railway station and the newly-constructed Bicentennial Fountain on Monday, July 5, 1976. An estimated 2,500 people attended the festivities in Wild Meadows Trace. The plaque reads: THIS FOUNTAIN IS GIVEN BY ELMHURST CITIZENS AND ORGANIZATIONS SO THAT THIS AND FUTURE GENERATIONS MAY SHARE ITS BEAUTY AND TRANQUILITY AND BE REMINDED OF OUR NATIONAL HERITAGE. DEDICATED ON JULY 5 OF THE BICENTENNIAL YEAR 1976
