This mural is titled Adelaide, The Keeper of the Garden. It was created by local artist and Elmhurst resident, Melina Scott.
The mural features a serene, seated woman surrounded by blooming flowers that gracefully extend across the parking structure’s pillars. The design draws from the natural world and is inspired by a quote from Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges, symbolizing shared beauty and personal growth. It brings vibrant color and artistic inspiration to the heart of downtown Elmhurst.
The mural is both visually striking, and emotionally resonant, inviting residents and visitors alike, to pause, reflect, and connect with the shared spaces that make Elmhurst unique.
Melina states:
“I was born and raised in Argentina; I began my journey painting when I was just twelve years old. The majority of skills I have developed reflect on curiosity, experimenting, and growth, and truly allowing myself to enjoy the journey.
I believe that society expresses change in relation to what is around us, and what surrounds us affects what we become. If people surround themselves with beauty and harmony, society will be more inclined to be kind to one another. I am always looking to inspire people to be creative, and to look for those things that feed the soul.
Mayor Scott Levin says, “Public art is a vital part of our city’s identity. Melina’s mural is a beautiful addition to our downtown, that reflects the creativity, culture, and community spirit that defines Elmhurst.”
Adelaide, The Keeper of the Garden was inaugurated in 2025 by The City of Elmhurst and the Elmhurst Public Arts Commission.
