Maple, Armstrong Red

This is the Armstrong Red Maple, or Acer rubrum 'Armstrong'. This fast-growing tree stands tall with a sleek, upright form and striking silver-gray bark. It’s a hybrid of the red and silver maple, and you can spot its heritage in its deeply-cut, five-lobed leaves. In spring, it produces small blooms that give way to samara seed pods in the fall. Unlike some maples, this one has a narrow spread—only 15 to 20 feet wide—making it perfect for tight urban spaces, whether near buildings or along sidewalks. It also thrives in wet soils, much like its red maple parent. When autumn arrives, prepare for a brilliant display of yellow, orange, and red hues. At full maturity, it reaches an impressive 40 to 50 feet tall, maintaining its signature columnar shape. This is a tree built for both beauty and adaptability.
