Story of the Steel City

The borough of Braddock was incorporated in 1867, named in honor of the General. Andrew Carnegie made parts of the original battlefield the site for the Edgar Thompson Steel Works. Braddock grew up around the plant until the collapse of the U.S. steel industry in the 1970's and 80's. Now Braddock is undergoing active revitalization efforts. The Braddock's Battlefield History Center opened in 2012, largely due to the efforts of Robert T. Messner. Now, the Fort Ligonier Association act as stewards of the site in the hopes of mounting a rebuilding campaign to transform the site into a modern immersive museum and community space.
