In 1754 the British Board of Trade characterized the Ohio Valley in North America as “a point of such great national importance”. Both the British and the French colonies attempted to estblish numerous permanent settlements into the area - but were repeatedly put off by attacks. War in Europe spilled over to the Amercias as well - brining the conflict between England and France to this region. Mounting incursions on both sides over the years finally led to all-our war, after a young George Washington led British troops againts the French at the Battle of Jumonville Glen in 1754 - hutling the two powers and their colonies into the French and Indian War.
