War in the Wilderness

The flying column crossed the Monongahela River twice the morning of July 9, 1755. They expected an ambush each time, but none came. Their spirits were high as they arrived on the western riverbank only seven miles away from Fort Duquesne. Meanwhile, at the fort, Captain Beaujeau was inspiring his Indian allies to seize the moment and attack Braddock's convoy. The two forces would collide head-on in the middle of the forest. Conditions that enabled one of the most influential military engagements of the age.
