My name is Max Proske, and I am going to be your tour guide for our next couple stops! I am from Denver, Colorado and am majoring in Biology and International Studies and minoring in Chemistry, French and Leadership Studies. I am also involved in the DU Grilling Society, I am the president, and Pioneer Leadership Program.
Here we are outside of the Anderson Academic Commons, or AAC. Behind us to the south is Carnegie Green.
The Anderson Academic Commons is the academic hub of the DU campus. With renovations completed in 2013, this state-of-the-art building goes beyond a traditional library with centers for assistance with writing, math and sciences, digital media, technology and research, and more. It also serves as an intellectual meeting space for our 5,800+ undergraduate and 6,900+ graduate students. There’s even a café inside for students to grab a bite to eat or something to drink!
I really enjoy that the library is central to campus, making it easy to get to. It also is a relaxing environment, so easy to settle in and study. I have spent quite a bit of time in the library, and have even found myself there a few times when the scary voice comes on at Midnight telling me to go home.
To the east of the AAC, you will find the Holocaust Memorial and Social Justice Action Site. It is a gathering space that inspires the transformation of memory into social consciousness and action and is an important landmark on our campus.
