Harbor District Historical Tour - Washington, North Carolina

Experience Washington's Harbor District historical treasures with this self-guided audio tour. You'll encounter historical sites along the waterfront and downtown and view some of our remarkable turn of the 20th Century commercial buildings. Along the way, you will learn how maritime commerce contributed to Washington's growth as an important trade center for eastern North Carolina.

The tour is approximately 1.5 miles, and takes about 1.5 to 2 hours at a strolling pace.



Watch your step and be careful when crossing our busy downtown streets. Take your time, stroll and enjoy the many shops and restaurants in the Harbor District!


Starting Point:

The tour is self-guided, and it's easy to start and follow anywhere along the way. We recommend starting at the St. Peter's churchyard at East Main Street and Bonner Street.

Our Historic District is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. In addition, several sites on the tour are also included in the Register.
