The site of these mills was an ancient millstead, belonging since the 16th century to the Incorporation of Bakers in Glasgow, who’s Bunhouse Mills (milling using grindstones) had become obsolete by 1886 when they were destroyed by fire. John Ure, miller and flour merchant, had the Regent Mills built in 1887-90 to use the new roller-milling process. The mills were designed by A Watt of Aberdeen. To the right are parts of the Bishop’s and Scotstoun mills.
