The Education Center was originally designed by architect Alden B. Dow in 1948 as the home of Macauley and Helen (Dow) Whiting, the granddaughter of Herbert and Grace Dow. The couple lived in this home for thirty years and raised six children. This mid-century modern building now serves as office space, a group tour entrance, and a beautiful environment for offering enriching public programs and educational opportunities.
This concludes the Dow Gardens Audio Tour. We thank you for spending time with us today and sharing in this legacy of beauty. As Herbert H. Dow once said, “the gardens never pretend to be a finished idea.” Dow Gardens changes seasonally, so there is always something new to discover. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
