Wedding Peninsula

The Peninsula is one of two wedding ceremony sites within the gardens. It is also the largest, with a capacity of up to 200 seated guests. The mature trees and plantings add to the enchanting atmosphere of this space. The curvature of the approach allows the bride to await her cues without ever being seen.

The spring brings an abundance of color to this area. The two vibrant redbud trees create a natural frame for the bride and groom, while the pond and bridge serve as a beautiful backdrop. As the summer progresses, a variety of hydrangeas, aptly named Blushing Bride, begin to blossom, along with White Dome and Oak Leaf hydrangeas. In the fall, the approach greets visitors with an artful arrangement of late-season perennials.

There is a long history of weddings being hosted on the Dow Gardens property. Willard Dow was the first of the Dow children to be married in the gardens in 1921, followed by his sister, Dorothy Dow Arbury, in 1933.
