The Marian Shrine was added to the east transept in 1965. Its painted triptych shows Mary in glory, flanked by angels holding banners with scriptural praises for her.
Wall stencils on either side depict symbols of Mary drawn from the Litany of Loretto, a prayer invoking her as "Mystical Rose," House of Ivory," Morning Star".
The blue and gold paint was restored in 2002.
The gilded wooden crucifix is an important feature of the Marian chapel, linking her graces with her Son's saving death.
After visiting this area, let's walk towards the back of the cathedral in the center Isle. Stop in the middle of the two side shrines.
Then play the next stop.
