Winterberry (Female)

Continuing our journey, we encounter another captivating presence in the forest: the Female Winterberry, scientifically referred to as Ilex verticillata 'Winter Red'. Like its male counterpart, these winterberries resemble bushes rather than trees. Their standout feature remains the vibrant reddish-orange berries, resilient throughout the winter, providing essential sustenance for wildlife. During summer, their dark green glossy leaves form a lush backdrop, transitioning to a striking yellow in autumn. Characterized by ovate leaves with toothed edges, they contribute to the plant's unique profile. The female winterberry also showcases clusters of small flowers, often mirroring the berries' size. These delicate blooms boast 4 to 8 white petals encircling a yellowish-green center.
