As you explore the Robert Day Sciences Center, you’ll encounter classrooms that redefine the learning experience. These state-of-the-art spaces are designed to support a variety of modes of teaching and learning and to encourage student interactions. For example, the walls are actually floor-to-ceiling whiteboards. All the students in a class can simultaneously go to the boards to work in groups on interactive exercises. The furniture is on wheels and can be easily configured for many different layouts that support different modes of instruction. The AV system is wireless, allowing students and faculty to share their tablet or laptop screen contents.
One of the courses taught here is SCI 10: The Codes of Life. This is the first science course for ALL CMC students, regardless of their major. It serves as the College’s science general education course and the first course in the major. This course meets in these classrooms twice each week and has a weekly lab in one of the state-of-the-art labs on the second floor. This course provides students with first-hand experience doing science, making discoveries, and exploring important contemporary challenges where science meets society.
You may also notice that some classrooms carry the names of donors. These named spaces recognize the generosity of supporters who made these learning environments possible, helping students explore, create, and connect across disciplines.
If you make your way to the South Wing of the first floor, you will see the Innovation Studio on your left.
