UIC Library

(NOTE: this text is from UIC Campus Audio Tour)

Across from the Quad is one of the most popular places on campus, the Richard Daley Library!

Established in 1963, the 4-story library is named after former Mayor Richard J. Daley, who was instrumental in bringing the University of Illinois to the city of Chicago.

UIC has two different libraries on campus: the Daley Library on the East Campus and the Library of the Health Sciences-Chicago on the West Campus. The Daley Library has numerous resources in the arts, humanities, sciences, social sciences and engineering

In fact, the Special Collections and University Archives houses rare books and printed materials and manuscript collections specializing in the history of Chicago as well as university archives.

There are four stories within the library and there are two common study spaces for students: the Circle Reading Room and the IDEA Commons.

The Circle Reading Room is a collaborative study space located in the northeast corner of the Richard Daley Library's first floor, while the IDEA commons is located in the south end of the first floor.  IDEA Commons stands for Information Data Expertise Access, and has computers, classrooms with projectors, and seating areas.

This where you will spend much of your time studying for exams and working on projects. The different floors offer great resources depending on how you like to study with one floor being for group collaboration and another for independent quiet studies.

Whether you are researching for a class or want to study in between classes, the Daley Library is a perfect spot!
