Gallery 400 is one of the nation’s most vibrant university galleries, showcasing work at the leading edge of contemporary art, architecture, and design. Gallery 400 is recognized for its support of the creation of new artwork, the diversity of its programs and participants, and the development of experimental models for multi-disciplinary exhibition. The Gallery’s inclusive program of exhibitions, lectures, film and video screenings, performances, and workshops features interdisciplinary and experimental practices and a variety of cultural and intellectual perspectives.
Open five days a week, the gallery and all of its programs are always free.
Located on the first floor of Art and Exhibition Hall, Gallery 400 supports contemporary art, architecture, and design through exhibitions, lectures, publications, and programs that prioritize interpretative reflection and critical inquiry. Gallery 400 is an essential complement to the academic programs of the School of Art and Art History. Students from the School, the College, and from other university disciplines have the opportunity to interact closely with art and artists, and participate in current discourse surrounding contemporary art. Graduate students from the School also have the potential to engage in research assistantships through the gallery and gain valuable work experience. Creating a place to connect, Gallery 400 actively positions its exhibitions and public programs as opportunities to build community and as avenues for learning in informal social settings.
