The Citrus Industry in Lake Alfred:

The citrus industry has been a dominant force in our city for generations. The Lake Alfred Citrus Growers Association was established in 1921. The building still stands and is represented on one of our many citrus crate labels. 

The Citrus Research and Education Center, University of Florida's first off-campus agricultural center, was established here in 1917. Research at this facility has led to many discoveries and technological advances in the industry.
