Continue onto Arno Road West

The road will come to a "T" and you'll make a right, continuing onto Arno Road West. You will see Valensin Ranch again on your right. Over 150 years ago, Valensin Ranch supported a bustling town called Hicksville. This town served as a supply depot for prospectors and a social center for area residents. The town owner was Billy Hicks, who helped rescue survivors of the Donner Party. He also had one of the largest landholdings in California, spanning several miles west of 99 to well past the town of Ione in Amador County. Hick's daughter, Alice, married Count Valensin, eventually taking over the ranch. The cemetery here is an important burial site for the Cosumnes Miwok, originally donated over 120 years ago by the Valensin family. It also serves as a non-Native American cemetery and is open to the public.
