Guest Story 5: Abigail & Rachel

Earlier this year, the Outreach team received a message from the social worker at a local hospital about a young family who needed help. Both parents, Abigail and Rachel, and their three-month-old baby had all tested positive for COVID-19. Making matters worse, after a brief stay at the hospital, they returned home to find a recent storm had knocked out their power. Their food had all gone bad without refrigeration and they had no way to heat up the baby’s formula. Without electricity and with limited options, they turned to nourish.NJ. One member of the team spoke on the phone with a tearful Rachel, making a list of all the items that this family needed to survive. Another outreach worker immediately jumped in his car and headed to the store to get supplies! Rachel said that she would love to make chicken noodle soup for Abigail, and nourish.NJ made that happen! Within two hours of their call, the family had groceries, baby formula, medicine, and plenty of comforts courtesy of our dedicated staff. And of course, all the ingredients to make chicken noodle soup! Everything was delivered along with a bouquet of flowers for Abigail and Rachel, a toy for the baby, and a big Get Well Soon balloon for them all. Tragedy can happen at any moment, and nourish.NJ is here to tackle these cases head on. We pride ourselves on being available 365 days a year, without fail. Especially during the pandemic, we responded to many families that became sick with COVID-19 and could no longer fend for themselves.
