This stop is located between 108 West Main Street and the corner of High Street.
Around 1910, the Town of Allen Baptist Church was being torn down. Lumber was loaded on wagons and brought to Angelica to be used for a building on this site as well as what is today the Angelica Baptist Church Parsonage. In 1932, Mrs Hazel Scholes acquired this premises from her father, James Arnold, who operated a clothing store there with his wife, Nellie. In the mid-1930’s the store was purchased by Burton S and Frances Platt, who converted it to a grocery store called Platt’s Cash and Carry. In 1939, the Platt’s began selling Clover Farm products, thus earning the name the Clover Farm Store. It was the first store in town that offered self-service, but still made deliveries. Interestingly, they had the hill going up High Street behind their store terraced using the tiers for storage and as picnic areas. During the mid to late 1940’s the store changed hands several times. From 1955 to 1959, Clifford I and Ruth Fox operated the store as Fox’s Grocery. It then was turned over to Ralph E and Thelma I Gorton as well as Glen G Dickerson who operated under the name Gorton’s General Store. In 1966, Glen transferred his interest to Ralph who ran the store until his death in 1972. Then from approximately 1972 to 1978, Gene W Austin operated Austin’s Used Auto Parts there. The property was later acquired by Robert A Perry who had the building razed and sold the lot to Ralph Schneider in 1995 where he converted the land into a used car lot until his death. The lot has been vacant for many years.
