As we leave the Vicroy Hotel travel west toward the Beach on Pico Blvd until we reach the Casa del Mar Hotel.
Hotel Casa del Mar is a luxurious oceanfront hotel located in the heart of Santa Monica. This iconic property has a rich history that dates back to the early 1900s, when it was originally built as a private beach club. In its early years, the building was known as the Casa del Mar Club, and it quickly became a popular gathering place for the elite of Los Angeles. Members enjoyed a variety of amenities, including a ballroom, a swimming pool, and a private beach. Several Hollywood celebrities were even regulars, like actor Clark Gable, actress Greta Garbo, and film composer Rudolf Friml frequented the Hotel to participate in illicit activities, such as gambling and drinking, and even had its own speakeasy.
During World War II, the building was used as a barracks for the United States Army and a military hospital, and in the post-war years, it served as a retirement home for nuns.
In 1999, the building was converted into the stunning Hotel Casa del Mar, which quickly became one of the most popular hotels in Santa Monica. Since then, it has played host to a variety of high-profile events and parties, including the famous Vanity Fair Oscar Party. The hotel has also been a popular spot for celebrities, with many choosing to stay in its luxurious accommodations.
Famous rock bands trash the rooms and Hollywood actors and producers would host extravagant parties in the Hotel’s suite, with beautiful starlets flocking to be part of the festivities. If you have time it's worth a walk inside and enjoy the vibrant new ocean-view lobby and Terrazza Lounge
