During World War II, the building was used as a barracks for the United States Army and a military hospital, and in the post-war years, it served as a retirement home for nuns.

In 1999, the building was converted into the stunning Hotel Casa del Mar, which quickly became one of the most popular hotels in Santa Monica. Since then, it has played host to a variety of high-profile events and parties, including the famous Vanity Fair Oscar Party.
