This is a live oak tree, one of the few found along the Preserve’s trails. Take a moment to compare its leaves with those of the nearby valley oak tree. Live oak leaves are typically smaller, thicker, and have smooth or slightly rounded edges, often with a glossy, dark green surface. In contrast, valley oak leaves are larger, lobed, and have a lighter green color. These differences reflect each tree’s unique adaptations to the local environment.
