Elm, Frontier

Next, we encounter the Frontier Elm, known scientifically as Ulmus 'Frontier'. This hybrid of the English and Chinese Elm is highly resistant to Dutch Elm Disease, elm yellows, and the Elm Leaf Beetle, making it an excellent choice for urban and residential landscapes. A medium-sized tree, it typically grows to 30 to 40 feet in height featuring smooth, green-gray bark. The Frontier Elm is a slow-growing tree, adorned with dark green leaves in the spring. As autumn approaches, these leaves transform into a magnificent reddish-purple hue. It's worth noting that the Frontier Elm rarely produces flowers and does not produce seeds, adding to its low-maintenance appeal. This combination of disease resistance, attractive foliage, and manageable size makes the Frontier Elm a valuable addition to any forest or landscaped area.
