Pecan

You are looking at the Pecan tree, also known as the Carya illinoinensis, the largest and fastest growing hickory. Thomas Jefferson famously gifted some of these trees to George Washington and they are now the oldest living trees at Mount Vernon. Wildlife such as rodents, foxes, and coyotes feed on this tree's nuts. The unique leaves of the Pecan Tree can reach lengths of two feet and have anywhere from nine to seventeen leaflets with hooked tips. Flowers form in drooping green clusters on this tree's branches in April and it can be identified by light brown bark with scaly ridges.
