The economic and military contributions of Richard Russell and Carl Vinson.
Vinson: Because of Vinson, the navy received more funding and began building new warships in preparation for WWII. Thanks to Vinson’s legislation, the United States was not entirely unprepared for the start of World War II.
Russell: During his time, Russell was on the Armed Services Committee, where he promoted a strong military in the 1930s. Like Vinson, Russell’s legislation helped prepare the United States for World War II. He actively worked to establish and maintain 15 new military bases in Georgia. Russell also used his influence to bring federal funding for building projects in Georgia, including the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta.
