Life on the home front- The arrival of industries in Georgia meant that some farmers had to give up their lands. Poor farm workers moved to the growing cities in search of better work and better pay. Many veterans also took advantage of the GI Bill, which promised a college education to people who had served in the war. Thanks to the GI Bill, many Georgians of low income were able to afford college tuition. World War II also changed women’s roles in society. Before World War II, women’s roles were tending to the family and the household. During WWII, many women were needed in the workforce. Women gained valuable skills, and, more importantly, many women discovered just how fulfilling having a career could be. After the war, women in Georgia and around the nation began to seek education, jobs, and better lives for themselves.
