The Wrestlers

My painting The Wrestlers refers to the decades-old civil war in Sudan. In recent times, that war was over oil – and was so vicious that the situation became irreconcilable, so, in 2011, South Sudan became an independent nation. Also, this piece refers to the sport of wrestling, a Sudanese and Nubian tradition, which the athletes now maintain is a path to peace among warring tribes and ethnicities.
