Alex flew in from San Antonio, Texas to get his portrait painted. He is one of my friends from the Northern Liberties building I moved into when I first lived in Philadelphia. He’s a corporate executive by day but a serious fine arts photographer by night. He wanted to be painted with his Yankees hat which was just fine with me. Here’s when you know you care about being an artist more than you care about being a sports fan — when your portrait sitter wants to be painted with his super stylish and beautiful Yankees hat and you have been a life-long devoted New York Mets fan who bleeds blue and orange. That’s when you know you’ve got this art thing under control. When you look at that Yankees hat and you know it’s art. Or, as Jerry Seinfeld has observed, we’re all just rooting for laundry.
