RAVEN STORY

Raven Story

From Joshua Pass’ artist’s statement.

Creation stories can be found in all cultures, it is interesting that most North  American Natives’ creation stories involve a raven. These tales involve a trickster  and a giver of life. This piece was inspired by the Pacific NorthWest tribe’s  myth. A powerful raven steals the sun and moon from a greedy individual who keeps  them to himself, later the raven gives them to all mankind. Two stainless steel  vertical forms represent the raven’s beak protectively holding a bronze sphere which  represents our sacred sun or moon being carried away by the raven to be shared by  all mankind. The vertical stainless steel forms can also represent two individuals  interlocked together protecting their most precious possession, love represented by  a sphere held between them. Divots and cuts covering the surface of the bronze  sphere represent life’s hardships; they are what makes the sphere and life so  beautiful and intriguing.

Raven Story is for sale for $14,500.
