Heart of the Matter by James Moore.

Moore is the same artist who created the beloved “Muse with Attitude” that called the corner of Washington and Humboldt Streets home for many years. We are excited to have “Heart of the Matter” join the art walk near the corner of Washington Street and California Drive. 

Moore’s newest installation is made from aluminum and automotive paint and is inspired by the fact that we all spend a lot of time trying to figure things out. Holding them up. Turning them over. Building frameworks to contain what feels too big or too complicated. But sometimes, in the middle of all that examination, you realize the answer was never out there. You have been carrying it the whole time. That is the moment that this piece lives in. 

James Moore is a Bay Area artist based in Oakland. His artistic journey spans over four decades, rooted in a 20-acre farm in Caruthers, California. It was there that he began his love affair with art when he came across an old tree branch and intuitively began to carve it. He would later come to understand this as his birth as an artist.
