The Manor House

Hello, and welcome to Samares Manor.
I’m Vincent Obbard, the current Seigneur of Samares, and it’s my pleasure to introduce you to this historic home and its gardens.

Samares has a story stretching back nearly a thousand years.
The estate was originally granted to a Norman knight who fought alongside William the Conqueror at the Battle of Hastings in 1066.
The first house was a solid granite manor, built for defence and durability — a symbol of Jersey’s early feudal history.

Over the centuries, the manor evolved.
In the late 1700s, it was transformed into the elegant Regency-style villa you see before you

But Samares is more than just a building.
The surrounding gardens have become one of its greatest treasures — a living tapestry of colour, scent, and texture.
They began as practical herb gardens and, through centuries of cultivation, have grown into a unique collection of botanical and historic plants that continue to thrive today.

As Seigneur, I see my role as a steward rather than an owner — caring for this place, preserving its stories, and ensuring it remains alive and welcoming for future generations.

So as you walk through Samares Manor and its gardens, take your time and enjoy the beauty of its craftsmanship.
