Sheep & Alpaca

We have many animals but the sheep are in greatest number.  Their thick wool keeps them warm much of the year and is sheered around June to keep them cool.  The sheep shearer is one of few in the area and is very busy during this season. He normally visits us in the later evening hours when it's cooler and the sheep are calm.  If the sheep shearer is scheduled to visit during business hours, we make announcements on our Facebook and Instagram pages so be sure to follow us.  The sheep love to eat anything in your paper feed bag.  Pretzels and greens are our faves!

The alpacas are named Fayette and Blair, after two PA counties.  These two beauties came from Bent Pine Alpaca Farm located just up the road from here.  The alpacas are gorgeous creatures who are a bit shy to the touch but they'll happily take a snack from your feed bag.  Choose pretzels or leaves for these ladies.  Apples are okay if you break them into smaller chunks too.  The alpacas are also sheared each year.  Angie from Bent Pine comes in her alpaca wagon, picks them up and takes them back to her farm for a day of beauty.  The girls get their nails and teeth trimmed and a nice haircut.  The leftover wool is used for making sweaters, scarves, blankets, socks and toys.  Angie always leaves us a bit to show camp kids too.

Last year, Lisa, who works in the market, washed some of the wool, dyed it and made a beautiful hat for Amy Paulus.  It's so warm and lovely.
