Welcome to Bullington Gardens!

We are so glad you stopped by Hendersonville's only public garden specializing in Horticultural Therapy. Once the home of Bob Bullington, a retired New York City policeman, Bullington Gardens was gifted to Henderson County upon his passing. Under the leadership of John Murphy, Bullington Gardens has grown into a refuge for nature lovers. John instituted new programs for Henderson County Schools including BOOST (Bullington Onsite Occupational Student Training) and educational programs for elementary students, while also providing Horticultural Therapy to students with various physical and mental challenges. John took the 12 acre property from personal garden to a new level, working with various volunteer groups including Henderson County Master Gardeners and many others to bring in new garden features such as the Shade garden, Sally's Garden, the Perennial Garden, the Nature Trail and the Fairy Trail. Popular among children and adults alike, Bullington Gardens has grown into a warm, welcoming home to gardeners, children and nature lovers. Since John's retirement in 2021, Annie Higgins has taken the helm as Administrative Director. She has instituted exciting new gardens and events, planned and orchestrated many capital projects with the help of local grants and donors, and has expanded our educational and Horticultural Therapy programs.
