5. Reforms or the rupture of the continuity (2004 -2011)

In 2004-2011, Romania undergoes massive reform. The main aspects relate to the independence of the judiciary and the fight against corruption, which are essential steps towards Romania’s accession to the European Union. Concurrently, the Romanian society is fast catching up with the West, which creates an increasingly wider gap between social life and the establishment, a divide that will peak in the decade to come.
