In the back, hidden in the tall grass, there are some honey bee hives. This is the Westminster Bee Club apiary. The boxes you see are homes for several honey bee colonies. Each one has a queen and hundreds of workers that are constantly bringing pollen and nectar to the hive. Some of the nectar is turned into honey, which is food for the colony.
Closer to the fence is a bee hotel! Yes, exactly as it sounds. Not all bees live in colonies. Most native bees are solitary bees and build nests with leaves, wood or dirt. This structure was designed to host several species of solitary bees. Watch carefully! You’ll see them flying in and out.
Back track to the intersection. Take the trail to the Eagle Blind.
