Master Bedroom - History of Appleton and America
Notice that the closet has two doors. The rear door was accessible from the hallway in front of the butler’s room. This meant that, when clothes were cleaned and pressed, they could be returned to the closet by the servants without entering the bedroom and interacting with the family. This speaks volumes on how separate the two sides of the house - the family side and the servant side - were on even a day-to-day basis.
