Rood2

The South Garth

As you go outside, look to your left and you will see the former cloisters and the site of the refectory and domestic buildings of the nunnery.

One of the rarest gems in the country is the 11th century Rood (crucifix) which shows Jesus still alive on the cross as the Lord who reigns, with the ‘Hand of God’ coming down from above ready to receive him.

You might like to think as you look at this cross, having  visited the Abbey, that it was belief in God which inspired and continues to inspire its thousands of worshippers to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ.
