The Crystal Room, originally the hotel’s Music Room, doubled as the Ladies’ Lounge. At the time of the 2007 renovation, the planners knew they needed more dining options for today’s guests. This room was converted from the Music Room to become an elegant, airy Victorian style restaurant.
The two smaller rooms in the back – the Pink Room and the Webster Room – were created from an original back corridor in the building. The Webster is named in honor of Daniel Webster, American statesman and 19th-century guest of the Bedford Springs.
The photos around the restaurant and the hotel were taken during the 1890s. They were often taken by local photographers who sold them to the guests as keepsakes of their trip, just as we do today on a cruise or at an amusement park. They show guests enjoying themselves around the hotel and on the hiking trails. The ladies and gentlemen display the elegant fashion of the late 19th century.
In the display case across from the Crystal Dining Room is a collection of many of these photos taken by Mrs. Bailey, a chaperone of the young ladies and gentlemen of the social elite. They are more than a just snapshot of life at the Springs, the names and dates on the photos make this collection an important historical document.
