Copenhagen's tower was constructed by Christian IV of Denmark in 1642.
Built as an astonomical observatory, it is noted for its equestrian ramp that leads to the top and for its views over Copenhagen. Instead of stairs, a 7.5 turn spiral ramp around the hollow masonery core of the tower, forms the only access way to the towertop observatory. This design was chosen to allow a horse and carriage to reach the top, moving books, transporting heavy instruments to the observatory and allowing royalty to ascend by horse and carriage.
On the upper part of the façade of the tower, there is a gilded "rebus" inscription, a combination of illustrated pictures with individual letters to depict words or phrases. The rebus includes the four Hebrew consonants of the Tetragrammaton. The rebus can be interpreted in the following way: Lead Jehovah, the right teaching and justice into the heart of the crowned King Christian IV, 1642.[7]
Solvang's replica does not include the equestrian ramp or the observatory, but on the gound floor you can find a pizzeria instead.
