First Floor Bathroom

Indoor bathrooms were quite common in large cities such as San Francisco—not so much in fledgling towns such as Modesto. To accommodate the bathrooms, the McHenry’s installed two large brick-lined cesspits in the orange grove adjoining the mansion. The most unique feature about this bathroom is the hot water heater mounted on the wall.

This concludes your tour of the McHenry Mansion. Thank you for visiting the mansion.  We hope that you found it to be educational and enjoyable. The McHenry Mansion Gift Store and Visitors Center is open and is located just down the street at 924 15th Street.
