Espiritu's Bedroom

Espiritu slept in a Victorian four-poster canopy bed similar to this replica. It was adorned with heavy red velvet drapes which could be closed for warmth. No closets were built in the house; clothes were hung on hooks and stored in trunks and freestanding furniture. The red leather trunks in the bedroom were imported from China during the 19th century and were common in California during the Rancho Era.

Espiritu’s large leather trunk and other personal artifacts are now displayed in our permanent exhibit in the Plummer House.
