If you haven’t heard about Patagonia, it’s one of the gems of sustainable fashion, and environmental action, not just in Reno but in the world. We, in the Reno area, are blessed to have this fantastic company here where every aspect of sustainability, earth care, and people care are considered in all they do.
To begin with, they design durable clothing and outdoor gear for all aspects of life, and if you ever need a repair of your Patagonia garment, you can just ship it back, and the local Patagonia service center will repair it for you and send it back. They also has a program called Worn Wear, where you can trade-in and buy used Patagonia gear. This is fantastic considering, as they noted, 85% of clothing ends up in landfills or incinerated. As their call to action so aptly explains, our planet will benefit from people keeping clothes longer, reducing consumption, repairing, and trading.
Patagonia has also supported activisms in multiple ways over the years. They have started what they call Patagonia Action Works, where they are helping to support organizations taking action to save the planet and encouraging individuals to join in.
We love what they say on the Patagonia Action Works home page, “If you’re doomscrolling the climate crisis, know that it doesn’t have to be this way. You can get involved with grassroots groups working in regenerative agriculture, renewable resources or conservation to meet the climate crisis head-on. Don’t give in, give back and find a group.
