Jennifer Pettus - "Dead/Ringer"

As an artist, I am fascinated by the ordinary, transforming everyday materials into conduits for unconventional expressions. My work is a testament to the potential hidden within the mundane, challenging perceptions and inviting contemplation on the relationship between function and form.

Drawing inspiration from the surreal and the alien, I explore the intersection of utility and abstraction. Through experimentation with materials such as hair, paper clay, deconstructed furniture, children’s toys, and domestic textiles, I dismantle conventional expectations of artistry, challenging function along with traditional aesthetic considerations.

My pieces often take on an otherworldly quality, blurring the lines between the familiar and the unknown. By subverting the intended purposes of commonplace objects, I invite viewers to question their preconceptions and consider new possibilities for interpretation. In this realm of the unusual, I seek to evoke a sense of wonder and curiosity, inviting viewers to engage with the inherent strangeness of the world around them.
