Deborah Jang - "The Shape of Light"

Hello, This is Deborah Jang. An artist based in Denver, Colorado, I have built assemblage sculptures for several decades. I gather a variety of used or discarded items and materials ā€” from anywhere and everywhere ā€” and I repurpose them into unique sculptural forms. When I first started this practice, I used mostly metal, weldable steel. Through the years, I started combining different materials, and have moved more and more towards wooden parts. But for this piece, The Shape of Light, I explored further with a new source material: lamp shades! which I found stacks of at local thrift stores. I joined them with strong glue, and illuminated them internally with LED lights, and placed them on a repurposed aluminum table base. I really enjoyed going down this new creative path with these materials. I also enjoyed working with not so much weight, and playing with the lighting element. You could say Iā€™m going lighter, and lighter. I hope you enjoy this sculpture The Shape of Light, and the whole show.
