Astronomer
"On the evening of January 7th, 1887, about 6 or 7 o'clock..a cross was visibe on the moon. That is, a large snow cloud was... partly eclipsing the moon, about like a fog... First a perpendicular bar appeared, going through the center of the moon like this: *** Then, a few minutes later, a horizontal bar appeared, making a perfect Swiss cross."
Johannes Huber meditated on the heavens in high aplen meadows where he trekked. He searched the skies ath ship's bow over three Atlantic crossings, and he made his way by starlight from a wagon, circle on the prairies to the West. Returning from his night school at the German hall in midway, where he taught astronomy, calligraphy, a singing school, and english, Huber eulogized the sun.
Farewell, though blessings, of to man! The source of his rejoicing, since day and night began. Of the celestial splendor, with multitudes untold, who dwell in worlds of yonder. We stare-and we behold.
O Sun, though grand creation, whom countless worlds embrace! Wherever is they station they follow thee through space.
The measure he hath given Is ample yet no more. Tis he, who rules in heaven Knew, what we might endure.
Johannes Huber
