Matilda Huber

8 May 1877-19 April 1881

I found her lodged against some stumps in the upper end of the beaer dam below our stables. The water ran muddy and high. She followed her mother from across the creek where I was sowing wheat about 2:15 in the afternoon. All I could do for her was of no use.

"She was 3 years, 11 months and 8 days old when seh fell in the creek. A lovely child, full of play, affection, and ready to work and haul wood for her mother, feed the chickens and the eggs, but very sensitive. The least correcction or hard word wojld urt her tender heart or she would cry for hours. her eyes were of a bright blue color, her hair like flax, a little shingled so as to make her head appear round. A beatiful child, and no doubt as beautiful an angel."
