The Treehouse and Shade Gardens

As you make your way around the pond, you will come across a magnificent treehouse amongst the trees.

The Treehouse

The multiple story tree house was donated by Ruth Schuette and was completed in 2012.  We wanted to build a treehouse for all ages and abilities to enjoy.  It is a great place to observe the gardens from a high point.  The Treehouse is an ideal place to take in the pond and the surrounding pine woods. Experience the treehouse by watching for birds and wildlife, feeling the breeze, or watching the clouds float by. It serves as a unique venue for wedding ceremonies and birthday parties. Children and adults enjoy educational programs in the Treehouse. The Treehouse provides excellent views of Sara’s Garden and the Hosta Shade Garden that are being developed.

Hosta Shade Garden

The one acre Hosta Shade Garden is being installed and maintained by North Central Wisconsin Master Gardeners Association. The Master Gardeners have been working hard to prepare the area, and hope to have all of the plants installed by Fall. This garden is funded by a Department of Natural Resources grant and the Master Gardeners. It will feature over 110 hosta varieties, and will be recognized by the American Hosta Society, once it is completed. This garden will give visitors a great example of plant varieties suitable for shady conditions.

Sara’s Storybook Garden

In the wooded area to the west of the Hosta Shade Garden, there is a plot where Sara's Storybook Garden plans to be created. This whimsical children’s garden will be developed in memory of Sara Quirt-Sann, with the goal of inspiring the imaginations of children and their families.  The garden will include interactive features including a shipwreck, a dry stream bed, a Lord of the Rings-style hobbit house, vine-covered tunnels, and several imaginative seating areas ideal for quiet reading by individuals or groups.  Small sculptures, topiary shrubs, and attractive shade-tolerant plantings will complete this showpiece garden. Sara's Storybook Garden is still in the fundraising phase of development. Watch for the first phase of construction!
