The Hay Barn

The Hay Barn you see before you is the third Hay Barn to have existed on the site. The first and second barns burnt down due to wet hay causing spontaneous combustion of the hay in the loft. The present barn was built in the 1930s. The upper hay loft of the barn originally housed the farm’s supply of hay, which would be stored as a loose pile, and would fill the loft to the rafters. Now the Hay Barn is used to store building materials for the town, park equipment and vehicles, and various landscaping tools.
